Over 500 people cheered for NS students on March 6 and 7 during our biennial play, Second Story, at Roxbury Community College. NS alum, Johnny Blazes, wrote and directed a story that championed a message of challenging stereotypes and going beyond the surface in order to connect with one another. Level Four and Three students played with the theme in real-time as middle schoolers, and in the 2-D realm as comic characters from “Towel Boy” by Martellus Bennett. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s talk on “The Danger of a Single Story” was a point of inspiration. A Friday morning matinee audience of BPS students encouraged our actors with rousing applause, on-cue laughter, and participatory rhythms. Saturday afternoon’s crowd of friends and family filled the theatre with love. Second Story was a joy.
