We are inviting your support for Learning Fair 2019, a biennial event hosted by Neighborhood School in Jamaica Plain that will bring together communities across the Boston area to celebrate the power and promise of young people’s learning. The event takes place on Tuesday, April 9 and Wednesday, April 10 from 6:30 – 8:00 p.m. at Forest Hills Covenant Church, 455 Arborway, Jamaica Plain. This hands-on event will raise funds for the Neighborhood School Scholarship Fund.
Neighborhood School is an independent K-6 school located in Jamaica Plain that brings “personalized learning in a community context” to an economically and ethnically diverse group of students. Neighborhood School expands the idea of what “school” should entail: it is a place where kids learn about social justice and their part in it, where arts and music are valued as much as writing and mathematics, where kids are encouraged to recognize and celebrate the ways they are different from each other, as well as what they have in common. Since its beginning 30 years ago, Neighborhood School has prioritized financial accessibility. About 30% of students receive financial assistance.
Learning Fair 2019 is a two-night event that is open to the public with free admission. A student-run Snack Sale will raise funds for local organizations that students support, such as City Life/Vida Urbana.
